Puerto Rico’s Women’s Baseball Team Achieves Historic Sixth Place in World Ranking

Puerto Rico reached sixth position in the world ranking of women’s baseball for the first time, according to the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).

The Puerto Ricans rose three positions. The sixth position in the world is the highest that Puerto Rican baseball has ever occupied in a WBSC ranking, surpassing the eighth place in 2012. Currently, men’s baseball is number 13.

This ranking update includes the incidents of the recently concluded first stage of the World Cup held in Japan and the runners-up of the 2022 World Cup and the Caribbean Cup.

“The historic rise of our National Women’s Baseball Team in the world ranking is the result of the changes made to the coaching staff, the months of preparation and the commitment of all the players,” said the president of the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation. (FBPR), José Quiles, in written statements.

The goal now, Quiles said, is to be among the top five teams in the world in this discipline.

“The women’s National Team has the potential to be among the best five in the World. We are going to continue working in that direction,” she stated.

Puerto Rico’s women’s baseball program began in 2009.
