PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir proposes the creation of a sports police unit. He admitted that he had conveyed his idea to President Joko Widodo and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
Erick conveyed this in a pre-workshop for national football supporters at the Abadi Malioboro Hotel, Yogyakarta City, DIY, Friday (15/9).
“I have spoken with the President and the National Police Chief. At that time I said that if there is a tourism police, yes I think the sports police are important too, I will continue to push for it,” said Erick in an official statement received on Friday.
He believes that the existence of sports police will be a big change in Indonesian football.
He originally targeted the presence of this unit in the U-17 World Cup, but the moment clashed with the National Police’s preparations for the elections.
“Why do I encourage sports police, so that these officers are close to us. If the police change from time to time, they don’t know us. But if they have a job desk that is close to us, that means there will be better communication, don’t think that these supporters want to make a fuss,” Erick said.
According to Erick, getting to know and understand each other between sports police and supporters makes them able to collaborate to create safe and comfortable football matches.
Erick believes this collaboration will also build mutual trust between supporters and sports police.
“I will continue to push, in the future there will be derivatives of how there will be trust from the authorities and we can synergize with other issues, for example regarding hate speech on social media,” concluded Erick.
