Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City Chiefs Restructure Contract, Setting NFL Record

The Kansas City Chiefs and their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes have restructured a portion of their long-term deal running through 2031, the network has learned ESPN.

Journalist Adam Schefter reports that Mahomes will ultimately receive $210.6 million between 2023 and 2026, the highest amount awarded to an NFL player in history for a period of four seasons.

His compensation for the next four years is now completely guaranteed, Mahomes’ agent confirmed to ESPN on Monday.

The plan of the Chiefs and their general would be to reopen negotiations after the 2026 campaign. It is the Equity Sports agency, led by Chris Cabott, which is responsible for representing Mahomes.

By the summer of 2020, Mahomes had become the highest-paid athlete on the Goodell circuit; he then signed a ten-year contract bringing him the total sum of $450 million.

Since then, several quarterbacks have surpassed the two-time Super Bowl champion in terms of annual salary, including four this year: Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow.
