The last great joy of Uruguayan football took place last June, when the U-20 team became world champion of the category in Argentina, showing a generation with several export talents.

The truth is that the months went by and so did the transfer market, marking that of the squad of twenty-one players who participated in that coronation, only seven managed to change teams and only one continent: Fabricio Díaz.

The midfielder who emerged from the black and blue quarry became a new player for Al-Gharafa in Qatar in the last few hours, a very important transfer from an economic point of view, but a mystery for his sporting development.

The defender Facundo Gónzalez, meanwhile, who was a Valencia player, left the Iberian team to be hired by Juventus and then be loaned to Sampdoria from the promotion, a good leap in quality seeking continuity in the first division of European football.

Three others who moved, but within the continent, were the full-back Mateo Ponte, who left Danubio to join the Brazilian Botafogo, the defender Sebastián Boselli who left Defensor Sporting for the Argentine River Plate and Matías Abaldo who left on loan from the violets to Gymnastics and Fencing La Plata.

The remaining two movements of that U-20 squad were at the local level, since Ignacio Sosa from Fénix and Franco González from Danubio were hired by Peñarol.

The rest

Of the remaining players of said team, all remained in their institutions despite the fact that there were offers for several that did not satisfy the clubs.

Some of them still remain without the desired continuity in the first division, such as Randall Rodríguez and Mathías De Ritis in Peñarol, José Arbio in River Plate and Facundo Machado in Nacional.

There are cases of footballers who add some minutes or are an alternative to the starters, while others earned their place through performances such as Anderson Duarte, Damián García and Juan Cruz De Los Santos.

There is also the case of players who are already in Europe, such as the case of Alan Matturro, who this Saturday was on the bench for the first time (after overcoming an injury) in Genoa that drew 2-2 with Napoli, or Andrés Ferrari who is a substitute at Villareal II, a subsidiary of the Yellow Submarine.

The one who remains free of action is the great leader of that group, coach Marcelo Broli, who did not reach an agreement to renew his relationship with the Uruguayan Football Association and is waiting for an opportunity and challenge that interests him to return to the Arena.
