Novak Djokovic triumphs at the US Open. In the meantime he stumbles – but still holds his own. After 24 Grand Slam victories, there is still something to win for the Serb.

Novak Djokovic urgently needs new shoes. Since Sunday he has had a new trophy that he can take home as a small replica from New York and look at every day. He also received a winner’s check for three million dollars (2.8 million euros), which will enable him to provide for his family of four for quite some time.

Djokovic got himself a blue T-shirt with his and Kobe Bryant’s likenesses and a white tennis jacket, each with a “24” printed or embroidered on it, brought it with him to Arthur Ashe Stadium in his sports bag and put it on. But the shoes! In the end, they were still the same ones in which the Serb had covered more than five and a half kilometers in the US Open final against Daniil Medvedev. There was a “23” written on the kicks. Did no one actually think of delivering contemporary shoes to the award ceremony to visually round off the historic sporting moment?
