Nick Chubb Sustains Severe Injury in Cleveland Browns’ Loss to Pittsburgh Steelers

PITTSBURGH – The Cleveland Browns had a nightmare Monday night game, as Nick Chubb fell in action and had to leave the field in a cart in a 26-22 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Early in the second quarter, Chubb was seriously injured in the left leg while carrying the ball near the Steelers’ goal line (1-1).

At the conclusion of the game, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski indicated that Chubb’s injury is “severe” and that he “suffered multiple torn ligaments.”

Stefanski added that further examinations will be performed Tuesday on the 27-year-old running back’s knee, but that “essentially” his 2023 season is “over.”

Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick tackled Chubb when his leg was firmly planted on the ground. It was therefore this one which absorbed the entire shock.

The network’s Monday night game commentator ESPNJoe Buck, told viewers that the sequence was so painful to watch that a rerun was not going to be broadcast.

Pittsburgh’s defensive front left its mark on this meeting, totaling five sacks at the expense of quarterback Deshaun Watson, and scoring two touchdowns, those of TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith.

Already the author of a defensive touchdown earlier in the game, Highsmith was the one who made the sack causing Watson’s fumble.

With a new lucrative four-year, $112 million deal, No. 90 of the Steelers was happy to recover the ball and run the ten yards separating him from the end zone.

Surprisingly, Watt’s fourth-quarter major – which gave his club the lead – was the first of his NFL career in seven seasons.

While playing for the University of Georgia in the NCAA in October 2015, Chubb dislocated his left knee, in addition to tearing three ligaments and damaging the cartilage in his muscle.

Until this sad incident occurred, the running back had amassed 64 yards on a total of ten carries.

Chubb was replaced in the backfield by Jerome Ford, who immediately scored his first touchdown of the season, followed by a two-point convert.

Ford provided an explosive play for Cleveland early in the third quarter, galloping 69 yards to the Steelers’ goal gate. Two plays later, Pierre Strong Jr. made his way on a yard for the middle finger; Incidentally, those were the only points the Browns scored in the second half.

Watson completed 22 of his 40 pass attempts for 235 yards. He added 22 yards on the ground.

Lifted by his defensive unit, Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett provided his most important play of the evening when he connected with receiver George Pickens, another second year player, for a 71-yard catch leading to a touchdown.
