Twist in the case of Kevin Porter Jr’s assault on his girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick since the player’s camp asks the Manhattan prosecutor’s office to reclassify the charges as second-degree assault, punishable by seven years in prison in the State of New York.
Indeed, the New York Post reveals that the fracture of a cervical vertebra, from which the former player suffers, is not linked to the attack, since it is a congenital malformation. According to the Rockets guard’s lawyer, the prosecutor confirmed the information to them, even if the latter did not speak to the press during the procedure.
Even if this specific charge is eventually dropped, Kevin Porter Jr. still remains charged with second-degree strangulation and third-degree assault. He still faces a maximum sentence of seven years behind bars if convicted of strangulation.
Released on $75,000 bail, KPJ will be presented to a judge on October 16, a few days before the start of the regular season. For its part, the NBA has opened an investigation
on this assault which took place in a New York hotel, while the Rockets seek to transfer him.
