NBA Launches ‘Future Stars Now’ Initiative to Spotlight Upcoming Talent

The NBA knows how to promote its virtues as well, if not better, than any other sports league on the planet. Now, the competition wants to expand its dimension and give visibility to its product even before it reaches it.

The league has launched a new initiative called “Future Stars Now,” aimed at showcasing the next generation of stars within a separate section of the NBA app. This section will include a wide variety of content, from live match broadcasts, to highlights, ‘behind the scenes’ content and interviews with promising players who are still in the early stages of their career.

In parallel, the NBA will also present various profiles on social networks dedicated to showcasing these future talents and bringing them closer to the knowledge of the league’s standard fan.

This decision represents another step in an expansion strategy that we were already able to witness last year. The NBA app broadcast the French league games of the 2022-23 season in which Victor Wembanyama participated before being chosen in first position in the 2023 draft. The matches of the event were also shared in the application Peach Jam this summer for the first time, which brings together the best prospects from the United States Institute.

The landscape of pre-professional basketball has changed drastically in recent years thanks to the emergence of teams like the Ignite of the G-League or the Overtime Elite, which provide new paths to an NBA contract. Furthermore, young players begin to build their brand on social networks long before joining a professional team, almost ‘demanding’ that the NBA intervene, start telling their stories and ‘give them the rope’.

Of course, this new section of the application will be available to all fans, both nationally and internationally. To kick off this new initiative, the NBA App will stream this weekend’s Nike World Basketball Festival in New York City, featuring some of the world’s best upcoming talent.
