This Sunday, the Navarra Arena pavilion in Pamplona celebrates its first five years of existence, in which this venue has hosted important sporting events of different modalities and shows and concerts for which there was previously no space in the city that met the appropriate conditions.
In the sporting field, Navarra Arena has hosted 3 international events and 19 national events in different sports, including rhythmic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, parkour, basketball, karate, taekwondo, judo, boxing, trial, freestyle motocross and crossfit.
They have also highlighted the concerts held in the pavilion that have been witnessed by thousands of people, such as those of Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, Joan Manuel Serrat, Joaquín Sabina, José Luis Perales, Estopa, Amaral, Nathy Peluso, Rozalén, C. Tangana , Fito & Fitipaldis, El Drogas, Marea, Quevedo or Melendi.

The venue has also hosted events such as the final of the Bertsolaris Absolute Championship, performances by Cirque du Soleil or the “Revolution on Ice” show, as well as meetings, congresses, fairs, exhibitions, filming and other events.
In total, the Navarra Arena has hosted 396 events that have attracted almost 750,000 visitors.
Ramón Urdiáin: “The balance is positive”
Ramón Urdiáin, managing director of the public company NICDO, on which the Navarra Arena depends, told EFE that the balance of these five years “is positive” in the sense that the facility “is being used well.”
The objective as a multipurpose venue “was to do a little of everything and position it in the center of the national panorama of large event venues and we are more or less satisfied with the number of events we have achieved and with the perception that citizens have of the facility “, he assured.
“We are happy,” he said, “there is always room for improvement and we work to do more and better things every time,” but “initially, the photo we have of these first five years we believe has been good.”
The organizers of national and international events held at the Navarra Arena, Urdiain commented, have valued the quality of the venue: “I think we have a magnificent facility, it is a modern facility, it is also attractive and then it has qualities that make it easy to work towards the production of the event itself”.
“It is a facility that allows you to work well and at low costs, which is what allows the event to be profitable,” stated the director of NICDO.
As a facility, he assured, “we have no complaints” and in addition the Navarra Arena team “has provided services to the client, to the federations, to the promoters, to facilitate, as far as possible, everything that is the work of people who come from outside”.
“That, added to the fact that the citizens have responded very well when coming to the venue, has made things go well,” he stressed.
The importance of teamwork
Urdiáin has considered that, “if the Navarra Arena is working well and has good publicity”, it is due to the sum of “the teamwork, the facility, the citizens, the promoters, the federations, the media who have also supported and have made it easier for everything that happens to be spread well and for people to see it favorably.
“As a whole, everyone has made it possible for things to work and that from time to time we can have events with up to 12,000 people in the facility and for things to go well and be repeated. I believe that is teamwork,” he said. highlighted.
The opening of the Navarra Arena allowed Pamplona to take a qualitative leap in the level of concerts held in the city, since artists of the stature of Bob Dylan or Mark Knopfler have passed through this venue and Sting is scheduled to perform on December 16 .
In this sense, Urdiáin has highlighted that previously, “since there was not a facility capable of hosting so many people, that made it unfeasible.”
It is precisely in the international event where the Navarra Arena wants to have an impact: “I think we have already well covered the national panorama and the objective is to work on international events that give the city its name, that allow Navarrese citizens to enjoy events of first category at home and that they also bring people from outside.
“What we want is to continue growing in international events that position Navarra and Pamplona as a place for large events,” he said.
