Leon Goretzka (28) vented his frustration on social media. Leipzig’s Timo Werner (27) and David Raum (25) were golfing when the national team rehearsed the new tactics in Wolfsburg.
This time, national coach Hansi Flick (58) did not nominate some big names for the two international matches against Japan on Saturday and against France on Tuesday (9 p.m./ARD).
Two important international matches that will also decide the future of the national coach!
Apart from Goretzka, Werner and Raum, Mario Götze (31), Matthias Ginter (29) and Mats Hummels (34), all three of whom were in the DFB squad in 2014 when Germany won the World Cup in Brazil, are missing.
How did the six stars react to Flick not being nominated? What have you done in the past week?
BILD am Sonntag has observed the six players over the past few days and says how great their chances of returning are.

Leon Goretzka (28/FC Bayern)
Bayern star Leon Goretzka (28) was certainly the biggest surprise in Flick’s squad nomination.
For the first time in years he is not there, trained three times this week with the rest of the squad and many talents, and seemed a bit thoughtful.
Coach Thomas Tuchel (50) even hugged him once.
What caused astonishment in Munich was that Goretzka was not re-nominated even after Musiala was rejected.

Goretzka had already explained his frustration a week ago: “I have said it openly and honestly that I am extremely sad and disappointed.”
Almost all experts are certain: Goretzka will be there again on the international trip to the USA.
Chance of return: 95%
Mats Hummels (34/BVB)
The relationship between Mats Hummels (34) and the DFB is cold.
The world champion recently commented on the disqualification of Leon Goretzka (28) in frustration: “Don’t worry, I’ve heard you get used to it over time.”

After the disastrous 2018 World Cup in Russia, Hummels was sorted out along with Müller and Boateng by Flick’s predecessor Löw. Flick reactivated him for the DFB for the 2021 European Championships, but he has been out since then.
In the Qatar World Cup squad, Flick preferred talent Armel Bella-Kotchap (21), despite Hummels’ regular role in Dortmund. A return is currently out of the question: Hummels is playing his last BVB season and is struggling with injury problems.
Chance of return: 1%
Mario Götze (31/Frankfurt)
The final goal hero of the 2014 World Cup triumph still has legitimate hopes of taking part in the home European Championship.
BamS knows: There is a close exchange between Mario Götze (31) and Flick; the non-nominations were communicated to him personally and openly.
Götze made his last international appearance to date in the 2-0 win against Peru in March – which was also Flick’s last win.
Problem for Götze: In his position in the attacking midfield, the DFB squad is strong with Jamal Musiala (20), Florian Wirtz (20) and Thomas Müller (33). With outstanding performances in Frankfurt, Götze can also become an issue again.
Chance of return: 35%
Timo Werner (27/Leipzig)
After only 72 Bundesliga minutes in two games for Leipzig, Flick’s decision not to play Timo Werner (27) is understandable.
But Werner knows that if he plays and scores more at RB, he will also become the focus of the national coach again – because there are few real attackers.

In order to get back into the rhythm, Werner was allowed to play through Leipzig’s test against Slask Wroclaw on Thursday and scored a typical counterattack goal in the 4-2 win.
RB coach Marco Rose (46): “Timo has the opportunity to work his way into our team and be a topic for the national team again.”
Chance of return: 80%
David Raum (25/Leipzig)
This season, left-back David Raum (25) didn’t miss a minute of the game in Leipzig. The non-nomination therefore came as a surprise, especially since Flick is now relying on a similar type of player in Robin Gosens (29) with offensive strengths and defensive wobbles.
Nevertheless, space was at peace during this training week in Leipzig. Over the free weekend we went to southern Europe in the sun.
RB coach Marco Rose (46): “If he can confirm the form of the past few weeks and sticks with it, he will be considered for the national team again.”

What speaks against it: Flick’s new tactics with Nico Schlotterbeck (23) and Joshua Kimmich (28) as full-backs.
Chance of return: 50%
Matthias Ginter (29/Freiburg)
Defensive all-rounder Matthias Ginter (29) is surprisingly not there. Because he had been in constant use in the past, Freiburg coach Christian Streich also spared him during the test in Karlsruhe. Ginter was able to take a breather with the family for a few days.
Ginter delivers consistently good performances at Freiburg and has always been good at the DFB in recent years when he was needed.

Experts like Lothar Matthäus (62) have always had Ginter in their dream top eleven, and at the last European Championship he impressed as a right-back.
Thanks to his flexibility, he has a good chance of being there again soon.
Chance of return: 50%
