National Basketball Team Faces Setback: No Participation in Official Tournaments until 2025 European Championship

Our National Basketball Team went on a long vacation. We will not be able to take part in any official tournaments next summer. The first official competition is the 2025 European Championship, its qualifiers will start in February 2024. While the teams of countries such as Georgia, Finland and Montenegro participating in the World Cup are looking for a chance in the Olympic qualifiers next summer, we will have to content ourselves with watching from afar.

The situation is that dire. But our federation seems to have hibernated in this summer heat. Although the President said, “I will speak after August 20,” there is neither a statement informing the public nor any self-criticism… When you ask, they try to explain the failure with fouls missed and recruitments not coming. Excuses such as “the electricity went out, I couldn’t do my homework” that mock our intelligence.

There is no vision, no knowledge, no knowledge, no effort to follow the world. Without all these, it is not possible to manage a dynamic, ever-changing sport like basketball.

Sometimes I say, “We also expect a lot from these esteemed people.” Isn’t it naive to expect good management from the administrators who were elected by a show-off election from a general assembly with a delegate structure that we can call funny, lest it be said that “he came down from the top with an appointment”? This is what will happen if you think that the success and fame gained as an athlete will be enough to direct the country’s sports and hand over the federation to a team with no management knowledge or experience.

As they say: It is not a shame not to know, it is a shame not to learn. If you don’t know, you can ask the Volleyball Federation to open a course. How to make a long-term plan, how to train players, how to assemble the recruited national team, how to create a spirit? Maybe you would learn… These friends are definitely asking someone, but I wonder who their mentors are.

Now the target is clear: 2025 European Championship. From what we have heard, we have talented young people who are afraid of not being able to play in their own teams and are making their way to the new world with attractive offers from American universities. At least follow them. There are many members of the technical staff of the national teams that we cannot understand what they do. Let them be useful in this work.
