Mexican Para Archery Preselection Begins for Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games

The national para archery preselection began the internal control that will define the four Mexican representatives who will compete in the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, to be held next November.

The actions began early in the morning, when the para archers had practices before facing the qualification rounds to begin adding points in search of positioning themselves better than their respective opponents.

The international multi-medallists Cathia Valdés and Samuel Molina, specialists in recurve, as well as Liliana Montiel, for compound archer, are some of the most notable who gathered at the Mexican Paralympic Center (CEPAMEX) to concentrate and launch the competitions.

The Aztec representative that will travel to South American territory will be made up of four for athletes, one per event: open women’s recurve, open men’s recurve, open women’s compound and open men’s compound.

During the first day of activities at CEPAMEX, the participants shot a total of 72 arrows each, and this Friday they will continue with a “round robin” to define the members of the team that will launch in the qualifying competition for the Paris Paralympic Games 2024.

Samuel Molina, with a score of 635, was the leader of the open men’s recurve; Karen Rocha, with 469, leads the open women’s recurve; Víctor Sardina, with 683, took first place in the open men’s compound; and Lya Sánchez, with 672, led in the open women’s compound.

The Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games will be the third international competition for Mexicans, after their participation in the Pilsen World Championship and a warm-up tournament in Chicago.
