The race will take place on September 24th and is the penultimate stage of the FISky Italian Cup for the Vertical specialty. The records of Boscacci and Collinge are in the spotlight, for which a cash prize was also up for grabs. Also competing is the world champion Andrea Mayr, as well as the Italians from the national skyrunning team Elia and Ugazio. We are also almost at the end of the Crazy Vertical Italy Cup circuit which, with the Melavertical on 24 September, reaches the penultimate stage of the specialty FISky Italian Cup. Now in its seventh edition, the competition organized by the Polisportiva Villa Asd in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Villa di Tirano APS and the support of the Municipality of Villa di Tirano, born as a sporting articulation of the Apple and Grape Festival of Villa di Tirano, in just a few years it has acquired its own value and importance among only up races.
An autonomous and structured sporting event, which over the years has hosted great Italian and international names. 3.4 km of development with a difference in altitude of 1000 meters and a timed start: this is the formula for a race that promises to be exciting. Pedretti Damiano triumphed in 2022 with a time of 33’21”, not far from the track record of 31’17”, achieved by Michele Boscacci from Valtellina of the Army Sports Group in 2017. In the women’s category, again in 2022, the CS Army athlete Giulia Murada with a time of 37’53” repeated the success of 2021, approaching the extraordinary record Emily Collinge’s women’s race, of 35’42” set in the 2020 edition just 2” from the world record, held by the very strong Austrian Andrea Mayr (who this year will try to lower her best time even further, right on the MelaVertical track). To date, the presence of Andrea Elia, FISKY national and Vertical Zucco winner, Marcello Ugazio, Italian FISKY vertical champion at Valgerola Vertical and double VK champion at K2, last year’s winners Damiano Pedretti and Giulia Murada (CS ARMY), has been confirmed. skialp champion and already winner of two editions of MelaVertical, in addition to the strong Corinna Ghirardi and Andrea Prandi.
