Manchester United’s move at the start of 2023/24 looks like it couldn’t be any worse. After being busy shopping in the transfer market, bringing in players such as Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana, and Mason Mount with a total expenditure of almost £200 million, The Red Devils actually stranded in 13th place in the English Premier League standings.

Erik ten Hag’s men have suffered three defeats in their first five league matches, and opened their Champions League campaign by beating Bayern Munich 4-3, last Thursday (21/9), where new goalkeeper Onana made a fatal blunder.

Man United’s new captain, Bruno Fernandes, was asked about the condition of his team. He said to TNT Sports: “The problem is everything.”

“We have to be able to score goals when we get opportunities, have to know how to maximize them, and have to defend as a team.”

“All the players, 11 players, have to defend. We have to be linked and connected so we can help each other, and that means we don’t concede goals. It’s not just the defense’s fault.”

“Often it is even caused by pressing We were poor up front, and we made room in transition situations for teams like Bayern Munich, who have fast players and are good at one-on-one situations. Often this is the cause, but now all aspects must be corrected.”

The Portuguese national team midfielder then also criticized Man United’s barren front line against Bayern. He added: “We are in a moment that is not positive.”

“Even though we scored three goals, the attacking aspect also has to be improved because we have to be able to score more goals with every chance we get. Considering the quality of players we have, we should be able to score more goals.”
