Erik ten Hag has taken the next step to exert more control over the training regime at Manchester United. The Haaksbergen-born coach is not one hundred percent satisfied with the current state of affairs and has imposed a new measure on his players to promote performance.

Ten Hag now keeps his players at the club at least until 2 p.m., the Manchester Evening News reports, among others. Instead of going home for lunch straight after training, players are now required to stay at Carrington to have lunch together. The decision can count on approval during the selection. Restaurant owners in the area are less happy with the decision.

Many selection players regularly dine in nearby Hale or Alderley Edge. Restaurant owners in Cheshire have already complained about the players’ sudden lunchtime absence. United signed Omar Meziane earlier this year. The chef, who also serves for the England national team, has been tasked with improving the players’ diets.

Since joining United, Ten Hag has been given a relatively free hand in terms of managing behavioral standards. The current measure is the last of a number of measures introduced by the Dutch. Previously, the players’ lounge was overhauled and the dugout was adjusted. A new space has also been built at the training complex to hold player meetings.

Martial left again within five minutes
The new schedule immediately leads to problems for Anthony Martial. The striker arrived at the club at 8:55 am on Thursday morning, only to leave a few minutes later. It turns out: the Frenchman was much too early. The starting times of training at United vary. On Monday the players report at 12:30 PM, on Tuesday at 9:00 AM and on Thursday at 11:30 AM.
