Struggling with an elbow ligament injury, Ohtani won’t be pitching again this season and likely won’t set foot on a mound in 2024. Nonetheless, he continues to act as a hitter as he approaches the market for independent players. Los Angeles preferred to keep his services and not trade him in order to improve their chances of qualifying in the playoffs, but the plan did not yield the expected results. The club have suffered five consecutive defeats and are 64-75.
