The stars of Liverpool FC struggled for at least half of their 3-1 away win over LASK. Another reason it was difficult to get going was the condition of the lawn on the Gugl.
“It was difficult for us to play our game on this pitch,” said defense chief Virgil van Dijk after the game (see video below).
His coach Jürgen Klopp was more clear. “The pitch is really bad, I’m really glad we don’t have to play here in December,” said the German, who liked the new stadium itself. “That doesn’t do the stadium justice, it’s outstanding. But the pitch is a meadow, really bad, and it’s not entirely safe.”
