Ligue 1: Fabio Grosso officially new coach of OL

It’s been in the pipeline for a few days, it’s now official: Fabio Grosso is the new coach of Olympique Lyonnais. The former Italian defender signed up this Saturday noon in the Rhône and will have the difficult task of relieving a club in great difficulty at the start of the season, OL being bottom with no victory on the clock after four days of Ligue 1 .

Having played on the benches of Sion and Frosinone, a club that he managed to bring up to Serie A last season, Grosso “is committed until June 30, 2024, with the possibility of extending his contract for one season additional » announces the club via a press release published on its website. A young technician with a reputation for making his teams play well, the 2006 world champion will take over from Laurent Blanc, dismissed by OL this Monday, September 11.

“Olympique Lyonnais is very happy to welcome back Fabio Grosso, with whom the club has always maintained excellent relations since his departure in 2009 and has great confidence in his abilities to re-mobilize the professional team” declares the club, which specifies that its new technician will attend Sunday’s match against Le Havre (8:45 p.m.) from the stands of Groupama Stadium before his presentation which will take place on Monday September 18. A triumvirate composed of Jean-François Vulliez, Jérémie Bréchet and Sonny Anderson will lead the team against the promoted side from Le Havre.

Grosso, who played 78 matches between 2007 and 2009 for OL, began his coaching career with the youth teams of Juventus Turin, before successively moving to Bari, Hellas Verona and Brescia before heading to Switzerland then Frosinone.
