Liberec has had a sharp start to the extra league: under the leadership of veteran coach Filip Pešán, they beat Bruslar from Mladá Boleslav in the derby. And that was also thanks to Jaroslav Vlach, who had the second lowest ice-time of all forwards two minutes before the end, but then he gained confidence and scored important points for his team.

What is it like to be on the ice relatively little and still score such an important goal?
I’m glad I could be there, especially at the end. It’s a great feeling, I’m happy about it.

Could you tell us how it happened?
After some fights at the bar, Oscar Flynn recorded it for me. Maybe not on purpose, but I just got it on the gate and it turned out great.

It came out less than two minutes before the end, that’s still potentially a lot of time…
It is so. It was a great euphoria, but it was necessary to calm down. I appreciate how we managed it, we didn’t let the opponent do anything, dare I say it.

Is it all the more pleasing against the rival from Boleslav?
Of course, every victory is pleasing. Doubly so against them, it was quite fast for the start of the season, although still a bit untidy. We’re just getting started.

Do you think it was a good advertisement for the rest of the year?
We weren’t 100% played yet, but the momentum was gone. A lot of fans came, I believe they didn’t go home disappointed.

There were almost 7,000 of them, weren’t you surprised by so much interest?
No, we knew people here were excited about hockey. Our marketing team did a great job getting them here and it was great. We heard them, we won before them, so hopefully we will continue like this.

“Our marketing team did a great job getting them here and it was great.”

Don’t you regret the unused power-ups from the introduction?
Although they didn’t end with a goal, I don’t think they were downright bad. I’ve seen good things there, sometimes that’s how it is. We managed to deal with it.

And what do you think about the return of Filip Pešán?
I guess we already know each other, it’s nothing too new. Anyway, that first win will cost him something. (Jaroslav Vlach is the Tigers’ team treasurer, editor’s note)
