On September 9 and 10, the three final stages of the spinning championship took place, during which the Latvian champions and champion teams were determined in dynamic battles in such disciplines as spinning from boats, spinning from the shore and spinning from the shore in the urban environment, as well as the athletes who will represent Latvia at the World Streetfishing Championship in Italy .

BTA Latvian Championship in spinning from boats was held in 3 stages – 1st stage (May) Riga Lakes, 2nd stage (June) Daugava/Koknese and 3rd stage (September) Lielupe/Buļļupe. The different bodies of water gave the sportsmen the opportunity to test and prove their skills in the most diverse copse conditions and techniques of catching predatory fish. During the season, 50 athletes’ crews, each with two athletes, participated in the championship stages, and more than 15 teams were represented with Latvia’s strongest and most ambitious spinners from boats.
Jānis Mangulis and Jānis Lindenblats (Ar Makšķkeri/Makskerlietas.lv) won the first place in the overall ranking of the 2023 season, Aleksandrs Zareckis and Ruslans Baranovs (Lucky John) are proud of the 2nd place and Mārtiņš Iskrovs and Deniss Ostovskis (Strike Pro) complete the top three Latvia). Lucky John (representatives: Aleksandrs Zaretskis, Ruslans Baranov, Vitalijs Vilcāns, Stanislav Osipov) holds the title of the season’s champion team in the team standings. The second place was won by Unitika Team (Guntis Smaļķis, Kaspars Dukaļskis, Uldis Pauliņš, Māris Krēpausis), and the 3rd place – Strike Pro Latvia (Mārtiņš Iskrovs, Deniss Ostrovskis, Pēteris Lideris, Pēteris Grieze).

All the participants, including the winners of the competition, emphasize the importance of great training, because the competition and the athletes’ skills are at a very high level. Everything is determined by subtle nuances both in the choice of tactics and in catching fish. Also, the athletes express great satisfaction with the high-quality organizational level, which creates real joy from participating in the championship.
In the Unitika/Vision Latvian Championship in shore spinning, the fight for the 2023 champion title went until the last moment. With just two points, the young athlete Rudolfs Oto Egle lost to the experienced athlete Andis Freivaldas. Đirts Dombrovskis completed the champion trio.
“Since I am the one who organizes the river, prepares the zones and decides the sectors, then I know every stone, hole and current in the river, which significantly helps with finding the fish. When entering the sector, I make a few control throws with the swing and decide whether to stay and work further with the rubber or go to another sector. In the first half, I usually work with standard size lures, in later periods, as the fish remain more attentive, I reduce the size of the lures. Lure rotation was also important. In the last periods, I managed to score additional valuable points by switching to the small perch, looking for it along the edges of the grass in the calm sectors, “season champion Andis Freivalds shares his experience.
Even closer results are revealed in the team evaluation. Here it was possible to determine the champion only by looking at the points (penalties), because the number of points after four stages was the same (171 points).
The Kurbads team has proven itself as the most serious player in the 2023 overall ranking, taking first place. The Wem Zivīm team “holds very close to the tail”, taking 2nd place and MK Salmo 3rd place.
“In general, compared to the spring session, this time the fish were less responsive. There were inevitable “zeros” in the scoreboards in the last half. Despite this, the three winners demonstrated an excellent ability to navigate in the given conditions and were consistently good at both finding and coaxing the fish. If someone “ran” his result, then another (champion) focused on choosing the sectors with the most fish and further processing them, matching the lures both by size and accurately animating them. Great joy for the active young people who showed a masterful performance during the season. I can proudly say that Rūdolfs Egle, Kristiāns Burševics and Krišjānis Pavlovskis deserve to be among the top three athletes of the year in the youth competition, “Māris Rublāns, head of the discipline, analyzes the competition.
Two intense days were also spent in the Latvian championship in urban spinning from the shore, which took place in Lucavsala. Both days of racing were exciting, with frequent lead changes and suspense until the last moment.
14 crews had applied for the Riga stage, the dense results in the ranking table even before the final stage of the championship forced several teams to work hard and tune in to win one of the awarded places.

At the end of the second day, the Steetfishing champions of the 2023 season were finally determined – DM Team (Mārtiņš Kampāns and Dmitrijs Kučinskis, Māris Efners (in one stage)). Umus Medus Fishing Team (Jānis Briedis and Gatis Malmeistars) lost a bit to the winners, while NGT Monkey Iures (Aigars Zumbergs and Krišs Borītis) won the third place.
