Laizāns, a long-time player of the Latvian national team, took part in a memorial match in Moscow

The match was dedicated to the memory of former “Spartak” footballer Ilyas Tsimbalars. Tsimbalar from Odesa, who died in 2013 at the age of 44, who spent a large part of his career in the ranks of “Spartak”, initially played for Ukraine at the national team level, but since 1994 he represented Russia.

In addition to Russian footballers and Laizana, players from Brazil, Serbia, Republic of South Africa, Bulgaria, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Senegal, Armenia, North Macedonia, Nigeria and Moldova also took part in the game. Anatoly Tymoshchuk, who once represented Ukraine, was also among the participants, who chose to continue working in the aggressor country after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Laizāns stopped his football career in 2014 and then worked for the Russian club “Krasnodar” until 2022, dealing with selection.

In 2005, Laizāns became the first and so far the only Latvian footballer to win one of the European club tournament cups, winning the UEFA Cup together with CSKA Moscow. In the ranks of the Latvian national team, the midfielder participated in the final tournament of the 2004 European Championship, scoring 15 goals in a total of 113 matches for the national team.
