KNVB announces new Ajax – FC Volendam match date

The match between Ajax and FC Volendam will take place on November 2, the KNVB announced on Friday afternoon. The match kicks off at 8:00 PM in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. For the catch-up match, the meeting between Ajax and SC Heerenveen will move from Saturday, November 4 to Sunday, November 5.
Actually, the first round of the TOTO KNVB Cup is scheduled for that week. Because Ajax participates in a European competition, they will not play in the first round. Volendam was actually supposed to play Excelsior Maassluis on October 31, but that match now has to be moved. The new date of that match has not yet been announced.
The match between Ajax and Feyenoord was stopped after 55 minutes on Sunday with the Rotterdam team taking a 0-3 lead. Fireworks were thrown onto the field twice from the F-side, after a beer had already ended up on the green battlefield. The KNVB announced on Monday afternoon that the remainder would be played on Wednesday afternoon, after which Ajax and Volendam wanted to ensure that their mutual match would take place as normal through summary proceedings. However, lawyers saw insufficient grounds to win a possible case. The Classic was therefore played out on Wednesday afternoon (0-4) and the match between Ajax and Volendam has now been rescheduled to November 2.
Volendam coach Matthias Kohler indicated that his club is also experiencing sporting disadvantages from the saga surrounding Ajax. “We have to adjust our periodization and weekly planning and we now meet Ajax at a time when there is a completely different momentum. The momentum is being taken away. It could be that we meet a direct competitor who has had a week of rest, while we are just played against Ajax three days earlier. That is not possible. It cannot be the case that Volendam adapts to help a club in Europe and then is disadvantaged again. So I hope that a solution will be found that will not be at our expense again Kohler said.
