Kevin Porter Jr. Accused of Assault, Placed on Transfer List by Rockets

Kevin Porter Jr finds himself in a sticky situation after being accused of assaulting his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, who suffered a broken neck following the incident. The Rockets reacted quickly by placing Porter on the transfer list, according to information relayed by The Athletic.

To convince a team to take over Kevin Porter Jr.’s contract, Rockets leaders are ready to include one or more rounds of Draft in the deal. Their goal is to receive in return a player who could immediately strengthen their team, especially since the 30th pick of the 2019 Draft seems unlikely to participate in the franchise’s training camp in October.

One crucial item to note is that Kevin Porter Jr.’s contract only has one fully guaranteed year, the first, amounting to $15.9 million, although it was extended for four years at fall 2022. This clearly indicates that the Rockets already had concerns about the player’s behavior.

Kevin Porter Jr.’s situation is even more complicated by the fact that he must appear in court in New York on October 16, less than ten days before the start of the regular season. He is also likely to face a major suspension from the league depending on the outcome of the investigation.
