MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Justin Herbert threw for 405 yards and three touchdowns and the Los Angeles Chargers kept Kirk Cousins and Minnesota out of the end zone twice in the final three minutes to beat the Vikings 28-24 on Sunday.
Kenneth Murray Jr. sealed the victory by intercepting a pass in the end zone with seven seconds left in the game, keeping the ball that bounced off the chest of tight end TJ Hockenson.
On Minnesota’s previous possession, Michael Davis handled Cousins’ pass to Justin Petterson on fourth down at the goal line.
The Vikings (0-3) received that opportunity after Chargers coach Brandon Staley’s decision to go for it on fourth down and 1 yard to advance at their own 24 with less than 2 minutes left.
But Minnesota simply lacks the ability to score late in games, something that helped them win one-score games last season.
Keenan Allen set career highs by catching 18 passes for 205 yards with the Chargers (1-2).
