Madrid. Jennifer Hermoso, champion with the Spanish women’s team and player for Pachuca, filed a criminal complaint against the still president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, for the alleged crime of sexual assault, for which You can receive a sentence of up to four years in prison.

Rubiales is temporarily suspended by the International Football Federation (FIFA), but if the sports courts decide that he did not commit any very serious offense to be removed from his duties, he can return to office, according to the statutes of the federation itself. and international organizations.

On August 20, when celebrating the Women’s World Cup title in Australia-New Zealand, Hermoso was held firmly by Rubiales, who with his hands on the player’s neck brought her closer to her face and kissed her on the mouth without consent.

in the eyes of the world

The image of that action went around the world and was the trigger for Rubiales to be suspended, a complaint was opened before the Spanish Sports Administrative Court (TAD) and precautionary measures were adopted by the RFEF itself, such as the interruption of his salary. , of his benefits as a manager –official vehicle, cell phone or representation expenses–, at least until the file is resolved.

But in addition to the investigation before the TAD, which is a sports disciplinary body, the State Attorney General’s Office decided to open investigative proceedings within the National Court, and for them to materialize they required that the victim, Jennifer Hermoso, file your criminal complaint.

Last Monday night and under strictly confidential measures, the midfielder decided to file the complaint, thus opening the way for an imminent criminal trial in which both the victim and the aggressor will have to appear before a court, that is, Rubiales.

If Hermoso did not formalize the complaint, the Prosecutor’s Office and the courts would not have been able to act, since article 191.1 of the Penal Code establishes that, to act for crimes of assault, harassment or sexual abuse, it is necessary to file a complaint by the aggrieved person, their legal representative or complaint from the Public Prosecutor. As it is an attack allegedly perpetrated in another country, the special court of the National Court must be in charge of the case.

In another battle for gender equality, players from the Spanish F League will maintain the strike announced for the first two days of the women’s tournament, which begins this weekend, after failing to reach an agreement with the employers on Wednesday.

After a meeting between the unions that represent the players (FUTPRO, AFE, Futbolistas ON, CC OO and UGT) and the employers of the F League, the negotiations failed because the leaders of the contest only agreed to raise the minimum wage of 18 thousand euros to 20 thousand, instead of 23 thousand, as requested.

On the other hand, in England, Manchester United ruled for the first time on the accusations of domestic abuse against the Brazilian international Antony by assuring that the matter is taken very seriously. However, the Premier League did not reveal if the striker will be considered for the remainder of the tournament.

Various Brazilian media published on Monday details of an alleged domestic abuse by Antony against his ex-girlfriend. The striker denied the accusations with a message on social networks. However, the Brazilian Soccer Confederation responded immediately and decided not to call the FIFA duels against Bolivia and Peru on this date.
