The Azzurri immediately celebrated the victory (15-2 in the 7th inning) in their first outing of the 2023 European Championship against Hungary. With mourning on their arms for the passing of the President Emeritus of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, Italy plays its debut match on the Trebic Nuclears pitch with Matteo Bocchi as the starter who completely blocks the Hungarians in the first three rounds.

Piazza’s national team immediately hit Sean Fekete’s throws from the first restart when Batista and Paolini hit a single and a double in a row that made it 1-0. With 2 out and the base in Friscia, the Hungarian third baseman Chacin commits a throwing error that brings in both runners, while the same Italian first baseman goes on to make it 4-0 thanks to Sebastiano Poma’s double.

Third inning: change on the Hungarian mound, Tibor Bagyinszki comes up. one of the few veterans of Piros Szabolcs’ lineup, who loads the bases but escapes the danger.

At the beginning of the fourth Bocchi’s perfect game was interrupted, with Cesar Chacin’s valid bunt towards Garcia, then pushed to home plate by Graeham Luttor’s double to the right.

Italy increased their tally in the fourth, a big inning, thanks to a series of errors by the pitcher and the defense (6-1) which pushed Hungary to change pitchers. Alexander Ogg enters, with Italy at 8-1. The tune doesn’t change even with Hungarian third reliever Benedek Laffer, who was also too imprecise, and the Azzurri end the fourth round at 13-1.

After 4 complete innings, 2 hits and 1 point conceded and 6 strikeouts, Matteo Bocchi gives way to Mattia Aldegheri, who after the single conceded to Domiszc, resolves the fifth round with 3 consecutive Ks.

Sixth inning: Hungary moves its score with 2 singles following by Chacin and Morua and the fly ball by Luttor. The lower part brings Italy the 2 scores of 15-2, with Giulio Monello’s pass that brings in Friscia and Celli and, again, an opposing defense in great difficulty. The last defense on the mound belongs to Nick Davis, who easily closes a match that has already been decided some time ago.
