The goals of the match, played at the Meazza in Milan, were all scored in the first half: by Davide Frattesi, scorer of a brace, and by Andriy Yarmolenko. For Luciano Spalletti it was the first victory as Italy’s coach.

After the draw against North Macedonia, Italy needed to win to return to second place in Group C behind England. With four games left until the end of the qualifiers, Italy has 7 points, the same as Ukraine and North Macedonia, and 6 less than England, but with a game to recover.
