Instituto Prepares for the 2023 South American Basketball League: Schedule and Groupings Announced

Instituto is fully involved in the international competition that it will assume in 2023: the South American Basketball League. The Alta Córdoba club received this Monday the information from the International Federation (Fiba) of the first rivals and the start dates of the tournament.

The beginning of the South American League will come together, almost, for Glory with the initial leap of the National League. The opening match of the top Argentine tournament is scheduled for October 5, with the confrontation of the champions: Quimsa de Santiago del Estero (National League) and Zárate Basket (Argentine League).

The cast led by Lucas Victoriano is part of Group A together with Oberá Tenis de Misiones, Malvín from Uruguay and San José from Paraguay. The first home run will be played from October 13 to 15

Group B of the South American League, which will be played from October 6 to 18, is made up of Peñarol from Uruguay, Gimnasia y Esgrima by Comodoro Rivadavia, Leones de Quilpue from Chile and Leones de Potosí from Bolivia.

The last group, C, to be played from October 21 to 23, will be cheered by Titanes, Caribbean Storm and the champion of Ecuador and Biguá from Uruguay.

The venues for each of the three home runs were not disclosed. Finally, the Brazilian teams, such as Flamengo, Minas and Paulistano, which were classified for the South American League due to the conflict between the Brazilian League and FIBA, will take place in international competition. The Alta Córdoba club played the 2018 edition of the South American League, in its first international participation. With a different dispute format, Instituto reached the final with Franca from Brazil and the best of three games was played. The team was led by Facundo Müller and started losing away by 90-92. In the second match, at the Sandrín, La Gloria won 79-68, while in the third and decisive match, Franca won 94-94, in Alta Córdoba.

How the South American League is played

The two best teams in each group will qualify for the Super 6 phase, which will define the champion. The scheduled date for the decisive stage of the 2023 South American League goes from November 28 to December 3.

The definition system of the South American League is somewhat complex. The six teams classified to the Super 6 will be accommodated according to the results of the group stage. The casts that end up positioned as leaders of their respective groups will be distributed based on their ranking in the first, second and third positions, taking into account that the 1st will be the best positioned and the 3rd the lowest positioned.

While the teams that finish positioned in second place in their respective groups will be distributed in the 4th, 5th and 6th positions.

The winners of games number 1 and number 2 will face the first and second ranked teams respectively (J#3 & J#4 in the graph), with the two winners securing the first two places in Final 4. The losers of matches 1 and 2, and matches 3 and 4 will play each other (J#5 and J#6 in the graph). The winners will advance to the Final 4 and the losers will finish the competition.

The matches will be played on November 28, 29 and 30.

While the teams will be matched according to the results in the quarterfinals to define the title. The semifinal will be played on December 2, while the final for the 2023 South American league championship is scheduled for December 3.
