For the previous 15 years, the captain of the Blackhawks was Jonathan Teves, but back in April he announced that he will miss the upcoming season due to health reasons. As Davidson pointed out, several experienced leaders have come to the team who could become captains, but next season the team will have only assistant captains.
Last season, the Blackhawks were the second worst team in the NHL in terms of points, ahead of only the Anaheim Ducks, but they got the first pick in this year’s draft and got Connor Bedard. Defenders Seth Jones and Connor Murphy have returned to the team, while forwards Taylor Hall, Nick Folino and Corey Perry have been added to the lineup.
“Next season we will see who will perform well, we will look at all the options and after a year we will decide if someone will become the captain,” said the unit’s general manager. “When the time comes, the captain will be named.”
The new NHL season will start on October 10. The regular championship will run until April 18 next year, but the “play off” or Stanley Cup matches will begin shortly after and will run until mid-June.
