A few days ago, Santa Cruz had the visit of Royner Mora, Minister of Sports, Donald Rojas Fernández, Director of the Costa Rican Institute of Sports and Recreation (ICODER), where the presence of these two people served to hold a working group, with the members of the Cantonal Sports and Recreation Committee of Santa Cruz, as well as the Mayor of the Municipality of Santa Cruz, Jorge Arturo Alfaro Orias, where they not only talked about the organization of National Games, but also the arrangements in the City’s sports redoubt folkloric.

“As mayor I am committed to the development of sports facilities, a few months ago we received almost 300 million colones for improvements, in the Cacique Diriá stadium, in lighting, roof and transmission booths. Logically, all this budget is in the Comptroller General of the Republic”.

“Note that the posters are ready to put them out to tender, it should be noted that the lighting of the Santa Cruz stadium will be the same as that of Alejandro Morera Soto, we will have modern lighting and apart from that we will have a roof in the stands, it is something that was abandoned since 1994, I take the opportunity to tell you that we will also have a beach volleyball court”, said Alfaro Orias.

Jorge pointed out that they hope to have good National Sports Games with competitions in Athletics, Para-athletics, Boccias, Judo and in the event that a canton cannot meet the requirements, Santa Cruz is most willing to host regardless of the discipline.

For his part, Donald Rojas Fernández, explained that there is one year left for the National Sports Games to be held and this may vary in relation to the allocation of disciplines.

“We know that Santa Cruz wants more, but for us it is important that the entire province of Guanacaste participate, yes, the people of Santa Cruz are a strong option so that they can take discipline in case there are problems with another canton,” said Rojas.

For the Minister of Sports, Royner Mora, the province of Guanacaste needs the Sports Fairs, since it is the most important event at the national level, so it is good to take into account all the Guanacastecan cantons.

“It is important that the Local Government, the Santa Cruz CCDR and ICODER itself join forces, because this cannot be done alone if we want to meet all the goals,” Mora concluded.
