Ice hockey: First defeat of the season for champions Salzburg

The South Tyroleans celebrated a 5-3 home win against KAC and are the only team in the league undefeated. Pustertal now leads the ICE League with 14 points, two points ahead of Salzburg. Ex-Asiago striker decides match for VSV

Villach were also just a few seconds away from a home win against Asiago after regular playing time and thus three points instead of two. In the penalty shootout, former Asiago striker Anthony Luciani scored the decisive try for VSV.

Schedule and table

The KAC was behind most of the time against Pustertal. After a 0-2 defeat, the Klagenfurt team, who were once again without regular goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm, came back with goals from Jan Mursak (16th) and Lukas Haudum (18th) in the power play. After the South Tyroleans increased the score to 4:2, the comeback was no longer successful. The final phase was still exciting because Alex Petan deflected a cross pass from Manuel Ganahl into his own goal to make it 3-4 (50′). Daniel Catenacci scored into the empty KAC goal (60th).

Emotional rollercoaster for Caps coach at former club

The victorious return of Capitals coach Marc Habscheid to his previous position was an emotional roller coaster ride. The Viennese turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead by the middle of the final third, but gave it away with a double strike (Steven Owre 51st, 54th). The fact that the game ended with an away win was also due to Lukas Kainz, who set up Oscar Drugge’s 5:4 with his third point of the evening. Owre and Clayton Kirichenko (one goal, three assists) were noticeable for the home team.
