HSV’s Intensive Training Pays Off with Victory Against Düsseldorf

The HSV professionals could feel the difference the morning after the 1-0 win against Düsseldorf. Coach Tim Walter (47) had sent them on an intensive 55-minute run after the Schlaffi defeat in Osnabrück (1:2), but this time they returned from the Volkspark after just 34 minutes.

After the double defeat away from the newly promoted Elversberg (1:2) and Osnabrück, Walter had tightened the reins. The coach just let his team run for two days.

The team got the message. “We trained very intensively. But each of us also knows that we deserved it after a game like the one in Osnabrück,” says midfield organizer Jonas Meffert (29). “Everything the coach did this week couldn’t have been wrong.”

With a tough course, Walter turned things around at HSV.

“We all want to achieve something here,” says sports director Jonas Boldt (41). “Then maybe it’s a bit of education to tighten the screws a little.”

Against Düsseldorf, the Hamburg team presented themselves with enthusiasm, commitment and duel strength from the first minute. In the end, they won a strong 56.4 percent of the duels.
