Former top Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso more and more tightly connected with Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti approves of Alonso becoming Madrid coach in the future.
It is predicted that Madrid will part ways with Ancelotti after his contract expires in the summer of 2024. It is believed that the veteran Italian coach will not extend his stay because he has agreed to manage the Brazilian national team.
The whites has prepared to look for a new coach to replace Ancelotti. From a series of names linked with Madrid, Alonso emerged as the strongest candidate.
The 41 year old coach is on the rise with Bayer Leverkusen. Since being appointed in October 2022, Alonso raised Leverkusen from the threat of relegation to finish sixth at the end of the season.
Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen have become increasingly fierce this season after going unbeaten in their first five Bundesliga matches, with four wins. As a result, Leverkusen is perched in second place in the standings, overshadowing defending champions Bayern Munich after both earned 13 points.
Alonso is still under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2026. Carlo Ancelotti will be happy if Alonso is appointed as his successor.
“I know him because I once coached him. He has a very broad knowledge of football and he is doing a good job at Leverkusen,” said coach The 64 year old was quoted AS.
“I hope he, like Raul or Arbeloa, will coach Real Madrid one day because this is the best. Because I love them very much. I hope they can coach this club one day,” Ancelotti added.
While still actively playing, Xabi Alonso once felt Ancelotti’s cold hands. Alonso was played by Ancelotti 82 times in three seasons at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
