Betclic ELITE – The first multiplex of the 2023-2024 Betclic ELITE season saw Saint-Quentin win for his return to the elite with the Metropolitans 92. Le Portel also bit the dust at home against Bourg-en- Bresse. On the other hand, Nancy and Blois made a successful debut in front of their home crowd against Chalon-sur-Saône and Gravelines-Dunkerque.

Saint-Quentin brings down the finalist of the last playoffs

It was a more defensive match between Boulogne-Levallois, finalist of the last playoffs, and Saint-Quentin, Pro B champion. The post-Wembanyama Metropolitans 92 started the best with interior Josh Carlton (10 points and 8 rebounds), limiting Saint-Quentin at 9 points to start (17-9, 10′). A gap that Boulogne-Levallois maintained until half-time, in particular thanks to his passages on the free throw line. Except that the promoted person had resources! Power forward Will Rayman (rated 20), on loan from Maccabi Tel-Aviv, showed his touch on the ball to bring Saint-Quentin closer. But it’s Campbell Fabrics (11 points, including 7 in the last 5 minutes) which put the Phénix in front 120 seconds from the final buzzer and finally won (69-73). Saint-Quentin did not wait long to score a first victory for its return to the elite!

JL Bourg starts strong at Le Chaudron

The least we can say is that for its start to the 2023-2024 season, the JL did not hang around. From 9-9 (4′) in the first quarter, the Burgiens went 16 to 2 in six minutes (11-25, 10′), the 10 points of Bryce Brown (15 points at 3/5 at 3pts) helping. Unable to react, Le Portel had to return to the locker room almost 20 points behind (27-46, 20′). And the dynamic was not reversed, particularly with the interior Maxim Salash (18 points and 6 rebounds) to take over from the American guard. The ESSM Le Portel, despite the good performance of Bastien Vautier (18 points and 5 rebounds), had to lose by more than 30 points on his floor (-) against JL Bourg.

Robert Woodard II and Blois dominate Gravelines-Dunkerque
in the last minutes

Blois took advantage of the atmosphere of its Jeu de Paume to launch its 2023-2024 season in the best possible way. But first, the Blésois club and its supporters wanted to pay tribute to one of its flagship players of recent years, Thomas Cornely, now in Gravelines-Dunkerque. And it was BCM who started the game the best (9-17, 8′) and led the boat almost until half-time (38-37, 20′). But it is ultimately in the money-time that everything will be decided. The ADA could notably count on its NBA recruit, Robert Woodard II (20 points at 7/7 shooting for 28 evaluation), to manage to win in the last minutes of the game (81-73).

The Cougars bite the Elan Chalon

Returning only this Thursday after the birth of his child and having only participated in one small preseason match, one would have thought that the SLUC playmaker Nancy Basket, Frank Mason III (30 rating), was going to be lacking rhythm. Nay! It was he who got Nancy on the right track against Chalon-sur-Saône by scoring 14 points in the first half alone (51-44, 20′). In a sold-out Gentilly, the Chalonnais and Olivier Cortale (15 points at 5/5 shooting) failed to stop Nancy’s good momentum after returning from the locker room. With more than fifteen points difference to start the last period (74-59, 30′), SLUC calmly managed its business to achieve its first success of the season (92-83).
