Gymnast Seitz has been out for months after tearing her Achilles tendon

The German gymnastics record champion Elisabeth Seitz tore her Achilles tendon in her right leg during training and has been out for months. This was announced by the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) on Tuesday. “I have to let it all sink in first,” said Seitz. However, she ruled out resignation: “But my path is far from over.”

The 29-year-old from Stuttgart is now absent from the upcoming World Championships in Antwerp from September 30th to October 8th. There the starting places for the Olympic team competition at the Olympic Games next year in Paris will be allocated.

“I’m very sad that I can’t support my team on the way to the Olympics at the World Championships in Antwerp. But I will support them as best I can from outside. I’m sure they’ll pull it off,” said Seitz, who sustained the serious injury in the double twist element on the floor.

She is scheduled to be operated on at the Atos Clinic in Heidelberg this Wednesday. The uneven bars European champion of 2022 suffered the serious injury on Monday during training in Stuttgart, as the DTB announced.

She won the first World Cup qualification in Frankfurt with a strong 53.20 points. Instead, her teammates Emma Malewski, Pauline Schäfer-Betz and Sarah Voss will now compete without her in the country comparison against the teams from France, Great Britain, Romania and Switzerland.
