Germani Pallacanestro Brescia Preseason: Friendlies in Bormio and Sondrio

This Friday at 18 in Bormio the match with the Brianza players of A2 of the former Burns and Santoro. Saturday, same time, in Sondrio the crossroads with Openjobmetis. Unavailable Cournooh

Wooden bridge. A week of intense work for the training camp that is taking place in Ponte di Legno and beyond. The “retreat” of Germani Pallacanestro Brescia, as it was usually called in the times of the writer, the week away from the city in a pleasant place where you can enjoy not only the daily work but also the landscapes, form a team, make understanding, get to know each other and allow to nurture that feeling of belonging to the group and awareness of a common goal that the right number of days spent together from sunrise to sunset can trigger. Here you discover that your roommate, the one who will most likely be assigned to you for the whole year on the road, snores or talks in his sleep or laughs out loud on the chairlift where his teeth chatter from the cold wearing socks and slippers … All the players, except David Cournooh who is still in the pits with an ankle injury, have undergone training sessions, even doubles, which will culminate with the two friendlies this weekend in the Valtellina Summer League before presenting the team on Sunday again in Ponte di Legno (at noon) and then return to Brescia.

In Bormio with Cantù. In the temple of Valtellina skiing, where coach Alessandro Magro’s team has already moved this Thursday evening, this Friday 1 September at 6 pm Germani will meet Coach Meo Sacchetti’s Acqua San Bernardo Cantù Basketball in the first challenge of the Valtellina Summer League. The Brianza players of A2 in Bormio are having their own training camp and are returning from the test against Massagno won 78-72 (Young 19, Nikolic 15, Hickey 14). Christian Burns, great comeback with a two-year contract, fresh from Germani, was one of the blows that already reveals the high ambitions of the former blue coach and father of Brian (another ex from Brescia). Cantù has many connections with the Brescian club: Sandro Santoro, former general manager of biancoblù, will also meet again.

Undoubtedly, together with Burns, a couple of important and interesting additions show that the club has invested heavily in a strong identity on the roster: the power forward Solomon Young, back from the Fiba Europe Cup with Bamberg, has the ability to attack the rim and exploit good long shot. He will be able to give good ideas coupled with Kenny Gabriel. The arrival of point guard Anthony Hickey, who played at Hapoel Haifa in Israel last season and was also a protagonist of the Fiba Europe Cup, increases the prices of a roster that could be a protagonist in an attempt to make an important return to the top flight, which has faded briefly in the last season. It will be interesting to see him in comparison with Semaj Christon. Another return is that of the center Curtis Nwohuocha who joins a group of Italians confirmed with the captain Filippo Baldi Rossi, the playmaker Nicola Berdini, the guards Lorenzo Bucarelli and Luca Cesana and with the winger Gabriele Tarallo from the youth team. Among the confirmations, winger Stefan Nikolic also stands out

In Sondrio with Varese. On Saturday (again at 6pm) Germani will find Varese at the PalaScieghi in Sondrio. Revisited after last season’s experience with coach Matt Brase (called back to the States for an important NBA experience, on the Philadelphia 76ers staff), Ojm was one of the most entertaining players in the league with a very American game. The new technical staff sees Tom Bialaszeweski as head coach and Marco Legovich as assistant coach after his experience as boss in Trieste which culminated in his relegation to A2. The Varese roster began the highly armored preparation on August 21st. The challenge with Germani in the Valtellina Summer çeague will be the first pre-season and preview of next September 27 in which Openjob Metis Varese Basketball will make its debut in the Champions League. Even the red and white club moved with ambitions not inferior to last season with the arrival of the 213cm center Willie Cauley-Stein rookie in Europe but with 420 games in the NBA with Sacramento, Golden State, Dallas and Philadelphia. Another rookie from Varese, but with experience in the NBA and G-League, is US forward Sean Mc Dermott. Among the new arrivals also the Canadian guard Oliver Hanlan with a long European experience also in the Euroleague with Zalgiris and with many points in his hands and the left-handed winger Gabe Brown effective both in the area and from distance with a curriculum full of experiences in NCCA, NBA Summer League and G-League. The addition of center Scott Ulaneo (ex Cento, A2) and Leonardo Okeke (on loan from Olimpia Milano) completes the summer transfer market. The leitmotifs of the roster are apparently still the energy, dynamism and speed of execution that have also distinguished him under the guidance of Brase.

It will be interesting to see the new stars from Varese on the pitch with the new additions from Germani Pallacanestro Brescia. A great taste of the championship
