German Football Association Appoints Andreas Rettig as New Sports Managing Director

THIS personality is awesome!

As BILD exclusively reported, the German Football Association (DFB) is bringing former DFL managing director Andreas Rettig (60) to the association as the new sports managing director. The DFB has now officially announced this.

According to BILD information, Rettig receives a salary of 700,000 euros. In his new position, he is also the superior of Rudi Völler (63/DFB sports director) and Hannes Wolf (42/sports director for young talent, training and development).

After the end of the Oliver Bierhoff (55) era as director of national teams and the termination of talks with Sami Khedira (36) and the rejection of Nadine Keßler (35) for the sports director position, Rettig should now sort things out.

In the future, he will be responsible for the national teams and academy.

“Strong personality”

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf (62): “With Andreas Rettig we have gained an extremely experienced, committed and assertive managing director. I am convinced that he will approach the tasks ahead of us in the field of sport with great passion.”

Further: “Handling the diverse administrative tasks surrounding the national teams and the academy requires a strong personality. That’s why I’m pleased that Andreas Rettig has decided to join the DFB.”

Rettig is considered a critical spirit who likes to rebel against developments in modern football and wants to be seen as something like the “Robin Hood” of the industry.

At the DFL he was DFL managing director alongside Christian Seifert from 2013 to 2015, but his ideas, for example on the subject of goal line technology, often clashed with Seifert. In the Bundesliga he was boss in Freiburg, Cologne and Augsburg.

Rettig is looking forward to the challenges ahead, saying in the press release: “I would like to help make future successes for the national teams possible again and improve the direction of the DFB and the appearance of its teams in all directions.”

It will be exciting to see how the Bundesliga deals with personnel. At the top clubs in Munich and Dortmund, Rettig is at least viewed critically. It is clear that Rettig wants to closely accompany the future sporting development at the DFB and play a significant role in the conception of the future.
