Video gamers or “gamers” develop knowledge and skills that can be linked to a specific activity in any industry. Their profiles are highly employable today due to their unique combination of digital skills and soft skills.

Video games allow you to develop many skills that are transferable to working life, such as cooperation with others, strategic thinking, awareness of options and consequences.

At the same time, they promote the skill of continuous learning, increasingly essential as people adapt to the constantly changing work landscape, said Fernando Bermúdez, director of Corporate Relations at Manpower Group.

According to an analysis of 11,000 video games by this global company, it was identified that gamers develop better critical thinking, creativity, emotional intelligence and problem solving, and even teach players how to get feedback effectively.

A person who, for example, plays Fortnite cultivates the soft skills that a warehouse bagger requires, such as critical thinking, spatial awareness and problem solving, he explained.

He stated that soft skills are becoming more valuable as automation and machines perform more routine tasks. Even 43 percent of employers expressed that it is difficult to teach these types of skills.

The gamer profile in Mexico covers 23 percent of people in the country, who spend an average of 2.2 hours playing, mainly through a cell phone, 71 percent, and video game consoles, 37 percent.

And it details that 59 percent of video gamers do it online and 89 percent interact with other people, according to the Survey of Audiovisual Content Consumption of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT).

The Game to Work study also points out that the “gamer” profile has the ease of interacting and adapting to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Games help the brain create better cognitive models or templates, making it easier to predict and react to new situations.

He said that technology is increasingly intuitive, similar to a cognitive game that adapts to the user’s performance, increases in complexity as tasks are answered correctly, and makes production processes simpler.
