Former Tottenham Hotspur Player, Callum Cesay, Fails to Secure Contract with Werder Bremen

Bye-bye, Cesay!

Callum Cesay (21), who most recently played in Tottenham Hotspur’s second team and is currently without a club, trained with Werder Bremen last week. He wanted to recommend himself for more. That didn’t work. On Tuesday, Bremen informed the player and his agent that they were not planning to work with him.

Professional boss Clemens Fritz told BILD: “After long considerations, we decided against a commitment. Kallum made a good contribution to the days, both physically and personally, and gave his all. But he is still a long way from the Bundesliga. And using him primarily in the U23 would have made no sense. We didn’t want to harm any of our boys who we want to promote.”

Werder decides against Cesay!

It’s been a long time since a trial player joined the professionals. One of the last test players was Jordan Morris (2016) – unlike Cesay, Werder wanted to sign him. But the American signed in Seattle, where he still plays today.

Bremen could have really used reinforcements in the right-back position. Werder has only been able to count on top performer Mitchell Weiser there for a year. His back-up Felix Agu only recently fought his way back into team training after a long patellar tendon injury. It is not yet clear when he will be able to be back in the squad.

Since Cesay is without a club, signing him would not have been a problem for Werder even after the transfer period. But the Sierra Leone national player (four international matches) was not able to fully prove himself. He has now left Bremen.

Those responsible now hope that Agu can attack again quickly. After more than a year without a competitive game, that will probably take some time. Until then, the right wing remains a problem position for Werder.
