Former NFL Quarterback Alex Smith’s Daughter Battles Brain Tumor: Fundraising Efforts for Pediatric Cancer Research

Former NFL quarterback Alex Smith is going through very difficult times right now, as his seven-year-old daughter has suffered from a brain tumor.

The 39-year-old discussed it in an interview with the daily The New York Times.

“The words ‘brain tumor’ are terrifying,” said the man who suffered very serious injuries during his 14 season career on the Goodell circuit.

“It’s different when it’s your little girl and there’s absolutely nothing you can do. It’s terrifying.”

Sloane Smith is the youngest of three children the former quarterback had with his wife Elizabeth. The child underwent an emergency craniotomy in May 2022, after doctors discovered a very rare malignancy. She was operated on again in the spring, because the specialists had not succeeded in removing the entire tumor during the first operation.

Since then, Smith has been working to raise funds to help pediatric cancer research. In August, he participated in a cycling event in Massachusetts and raised over $45,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Smith retired from professional football in April 2021, having made an almost miraculous comeback in the 2020 season. infection that could have led to amputation. He also missed the entire following campaign.
