Nicolas Pépé’s adventure at Arsenal never turned out to be what either party expected. For years, the wing attacker was the Londoners’ most expensive purchase ever, but he could hardly live up to that price tag.

Arsenal paid no less than 80 million euros for Pépé in the summer of 2019, who had impressed in the Lille OSC shirt at the time. At ‘The Gunners’, the French-born Ivorian never played in the starting line-up for a long time and only showed his qualities at times.

Last season, the now 28-year-old Pépé was already redundant in London and was rented out to OGC Nice. He played a total of 112 games for the thirteen-time national champions of England. He scored 27 goals.

Pépé had a contract with Arsenal until the summer of next year, but that contract was immediately torn up by mutual agreement. He can therefore look forward to the next challenge and is on his way to Turkish side Trabzonspor.

With the price tag of 80 million euros, Pépé was Arsenal’s most expensive purchase ever for years. In the last transfer period he was relieved by Declan Rice, who came from West Ham United for more than 116 million euros.

Without Pépé, Arsenal will be hunting for their first league title this season since the 2003/2004 season. The Premier League club will also play in the group stage of the Champions League this season. PSV is the opponent in this.
