After injury setbacks, Paul Pogba is now threatened with another break – but this time because of a doping violation. The 30-year-old French superstar from Juventus Turin tested positive for testosterone after the “Old Lady” game against Udinese on August 20th and was provisionally suspended with immediate effect on Monday.

Pogba was on the bench for 90 minutes in Juventus’ opening 3-0 win in Udine, but the Frenchman was still selected for a doping test after the game. The A sample now revealed an excessively high testosterone level in the 2018 world champion, as the Italian Anti-Doping Agency announced. Pogba was immediately suspended and temporarily suspended until the B sample was processed and opened.

The Frenchman, who would have moved back to Serie A to Juventus in the Premier League last year after seven seasons with Manchester United, faces a ban of up to four years in the event of a positive B sample. The hormone testosterone in particular is high on the doping lists because it significantly increases the endurance of athletes.

Pogba had already played for the “Old Lady” from 2012 to 2016 and, among other things, won the Scudetto four times with Juventus for the Italian champions. He played a key role in the French national team’s World Cup victory in Russia in 2018 – for example with a goal in the 4-2 final win over Croatia. However, Pogba has not been in the “Les Bleus” squad since March 2022 – also due to various injuries. The 30-year-old also missed the World Cup in Qatar due to a knee injury.
