Fluminense’s master football team, Flu Legends, was in Itabirito-MG to compete in the Festival Telê Santana, this Saturday (02/09). The tournament organized in honor of the tricolor idol also had the participation of master teams from São Paulo, Atlético-MG and a local team.
The first match played by Flu was against the Itabirito Selection. Tricolor got the better of it, winning the game 2-0, goals from Marcelo Macedo and Marcelo Cardoso.
Then Flu faced Atlético-MG for the first place in the competition. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, with the Minas Gerais team overcoming Tricolor on penalties. With the result, Fluminense ended the tournament in second place, taking the runner-up cup home.
Starting in both matches, right-back Ronald spoke about the team’s performance in the tournament and about the emotion of representing the three colors.
“Fluminense played well and the first game we won 2-0. In the second, against the good team of Atlético, we did well too. Penalties are that story, luck. Whoever is less nervous wins. I am very pleased to be here”, said the side.
“It is an immense satisfaction to wear this shirt again. Thanks for the invitation. It’s a wonderful group, a very good event in honor of our teacher Telê Santana.” completed Ronald.
Author of one of the goals and an assist and elected best player of the tournament, Cardoso shared a little of the feeling of wearing the tricolor armor again.
“For me, it is a great satisfaction to be able to wear the Fluminense shirt again. It’s a shirt with a lot of history within the football scene. Participating in this event for the first time, scoring a goal and still being chosen as the best Fluminense player in the competition, for me, is indescribable”.
The starting lineup consisted of Wellerson; Ronald, Antônio Carlos, Leandro Euzébio and Lira; Marcelo Cardoso, Marquinhos and Jorge Luís; Marcelo Macedo, Zé Maria and Gabriel Lima. All reserves took the field in one of the two matches.
