FIT Almere Dominates in Victory Against Drop Shot in Season Opener

This weekend, FIT Almere convincingly won the first competition match of the 2023-2024 season 6-2 against Drop Shot from The Hague.

In the Mariahoeve the doubles were converted into a win and that immediately led to a 2-0 lead. Cheryl Seinen and Kirsten de Wit were allowed to compete against Kelly van Buiten and Iris van Leijsen. Despite a 20-14 and 20-16 lead, both games were ultimately won 21-19 and the match was not in danger.

In the men’s doubles, Alex Vlaar and Dijon van Wijlick competed against Freek Golinski and Nick Fransman. After 5-5 there was a slight deficit of 8-11. Things then went well for Alex and Dyon and that led to a 21-17 win. The second game went back and forth until 14-14, then Vlaar and Van Wijlick led to 21-17.

The singles were divided with Diede Odijk recording an excellent victory over former Olympic participant Natalia Primalova. The Almeers finished it off in the mixed parts. Both were won, leaving a 2-6 final score on the scoreboard.

Coach Dave Khodabux indicated that the team had gotten off to a good start, with still room for improvement. A tough match is scheduled for next Saturday. DKC is the opponent in The Hague. Last year the finalist in the battle for the national title.
