Breathe a sigh of relief in East Westphalia: SC Paderborn celebrated its first home win of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga against newly promoted SV Wehen Wiesbaden with a score of 2:1 (0:1).
Kianz Froese gave the guests from Hesse the lead in the first half (23rd minute). After the break, Sebastian Krass (51st) and Niclas Nadj (60th) turned the game in favor of Paderborn, who ended their short drought of two defeats.
Coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team climbs to 12th place in the table, newcomer SV Wehen Wiesbaden remains eighth for the time being after their second defeat of the season.

“If you are in a situation in which your boys’ self-confidence is not immense, then the first thing is to win the game,” said Paderborn head coach Lukas Kwasniok. “Especially after the 0-1 defeat, this victory is even more important,” said Kwasniok, who was very satisfied with his team’s attitude. “It was a lucky but deserved victory today,” said the Paderborn coach.
Guided tour of Wiesbaden’s Froese
Wiesbaden took the lead thanks to their first good move. Kianz Froese used a long ball from Thijman Goppel to give Wiesbaden the lead. Referee Robert Kampka carefully checked the VAR image because it initially looked as if Goppel had been offside.
Paderborn continued to play too awkwardly. There were quite good chances, but they were miserably missed. This was also the case for Niclas Nadj, who had the chance from the best position shortly before Wiesbaden’s opening goal.
“We are leading, playing a good first half, and have the game under control,” said Wiesbaden coach Markus Kauczinski, who was annoyed by his team’s subsequent excess of chances. “You have to leave the field with a draw,” said Kauczinski. “We have to learn to put a lid on things in a game like this.”
Goal premieres for Paderborn’s Klaas and Nadj
After the break, Ivan Prtajin should have made it 2-0 for the visitors, but he shot over from an unmarked shot. In return, East Westphalia managed to equalize. Midfielder Sebastian Klaas received the ball in a central position and didn’t miss this opportunity. He hit the left corner with a low shot – his first second division goal (51st).
And the Paderborn team followed suit. Goalscorer Klaas brilliantly put a central pass through to Nadj, who this time stayed cool and, with the slight help of a Wiesbanden defensive leg, overcame SVWW keeper Florian Stritzel. It was also Nadj’s second division goal debut.
Substitute Conteh could have saved Paderborn from a shaky final phase, but he missed two very good opportunities. It was still enough for Paderborn.
