First defeat for SSV Jahn Regensburg: On the 7th matchday of the 3rd league, the Upper Palatinate team suffered a 1-2 defeat against SV Sandhausen despite numerous chances.

Jahn Regensburg against SV Sandhausen was also the duel between the direct second division relegated teams – with the better end for the guests. Sandhausen took the lead early. Regensburg quickly recovered from the goal and looked for an equalizer. But numerous high-profile opportunities were carelessly ignored. Shortly before the final whistle, Sandhausen made it 0-2. Regensburg’s goal came too late. The 2-1 defeat was the first defeat of the season for Joe Enochs’ team.

Ex-Regensburg player puts Jahn on the losing road

Jahn fell behind early on – until the 18th minute, the Upper Palatinate team dominated the game and created many chances, but were unable to take advantage of any. Sandhausen’s lead then came as a surprise. As if out of nowhere, ex-Regensburg player David Otto headed the ball into the goal.

Regensburg quickly shook off the shock of being behind. Just five minutes later, the home team came dangerously close to the visitors’ goal, but Noah Ganaus, who should have just pushed the ball in, was unable to properly control the ball. Regensburg stuck with it and wanted the equalizer. In the 31st minute, the 22-year-old missed his next big chance when he maneuvered the ball just over the goal after a corner.

Jahn dominates the game – but doesn’t hit the goal

At the beginning of the second half, the Upper Palatinate team also besieged the Sandhausen penalty area. First Dominik Kother (73′) only hit the side netting, two minutes later Nikolai Rehnen parried a long-range shot from the 23-year-old. Oscar Schönfelder’s follow-up shot was blocked by a Sandhausen defender. Regensburg simply didn’t manage to get the ball into the visitors’ goal despite great chances.

Instead, Sandhausen surprisingly made it 2-0: Rouwen Hennings made the preliminary decision in the 90th minute. A minute later, the home team showed that they could still hit the goal: But Christian Viet’s goal could no longer prevent Jahn’s first defeat of the season.
