Filip Misolic Advances to Quarterfinals of Bad Waltersdorf Challenger After Victory Against Former Top 10 Player Fabio Fognini

Filip Misolic is in the quarterfinals of the Bad Waltersdorf Challenger after a 6:3, 1:0 win against former top 10 player Fabio Fognini (ITA/132).

The Italian, who got into the tournament thanks to a wild card, gave up after just 39 minutes of play. The listless-looking ex-seventh in the world rankings was apparently ailing. Shortly before giving up, Misolic made the early break to make it 1-0 in the second set. It was the first direct comparison between Misolic and Sebastian Ofner’s third-round opponent at the French Open 2023.

Misolic may against Ramos Vinolas

In spring 2023, Fognini fell out of the top 100 for the first time since 2009; Fognini is currently number 132 in the ranking.

Like compatriot Dennis Novak, Misolic is in the quarterfinals of the Challenger tournament, which is worth 145,000 euros. Novak will face Briton Jan Choinski (ATP/134) in the quarterfinals on Friday, while Misolic still has to wait for his opponent. The winner of the game Albert Ramos Vinolas (ESP/97)/Petr Nouza (CZE/770) will not be determined until Thursday afternoon.
