David Ferrer, captain of the Spanish team, predicts a “tough battle” in the Group Stage of the Davis Cup. This week, Valencia will be the venue where Spain will face Serbia, the Czech Republic and South Korea in the hunt for one of the two places that will give access to the Final on November 8 in Malaga. «I expect very tough qualifying rounds. There are very good teams. For example, the Czech Republic has very dangerous players like (Jiri) Lehecka, even though they are not so well known. For that first round we must be very prepared,” says the man from Alicante, who does not hesitate to classify Serbia, with Djokovic at the helm, as “the toughest rival.” «We will go step by step, and first is the Czech Republic. “I have a lot of confidence in my team,” adds Ferrer. Spain will debut tomorrow against the Czech Republic in a duel that will be decisive to obtain one of the first two places. «In Valencia the fans are very passionate, we saw it last year. I am excited that the players can play here because they will receive maximum support,” he says.

On the Spanish team are the Valencians Bernabé Zapata, who has a chance to play one of the singles tomorrow, and Roberto Bautista. The man from Castellón said he has recovered from his ankle injury and is confident that he will be able to “help the team in Davis very soon.”
