The last two races are going very well for Ferrari. During training before the race in Japan, world champion Verstappen is back in front in the Red Bull. Nevertheless, the lead over the competition is shrinking.

If the 2023 Formula 1 season had only started in Monza, Ferrari would now be in the lead. The Italian racing team has collected 64 points in the last two races. Even Red Bull only manages 57. The overall picture of the season tells a different story. Red Bull won 14 of 15 races, Ferrari only one. The world champion team could celebrate its sixth title after the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka (Sunday, 7:00 a.m. in the FAZ live ticker for Formula 1 and on Sky). Ferrari is far from that.

Despite the latest sign of life, the traditional team is only in third place, 332 points behind Mercedes. The impression of the last two races turns the story of this world championship on its head. Carlos Sainz put his Ferrari on pole position twice, finished the home race in Monza in third place and freed Formula 1 from Red Bull’s overwhelming dominance with his victory in Singapore. However, Ferrari’s comeback has little to do with the car. The SF-23 remained almost unchanged in the last two races.
