The presence of the historic President of FC Porto to close the second day of the Thinking Football Summit once again provided another real flood on the TFS Stage.
Over just over 20 minutes in an informal conversation with Rui Cerqueira, press director at FC Porto, Pinto da Costa spoke about his winning experience throughout his 41 years of presidency at the blue and white club, revealing one of the secrets: “ To be successful, anyone needs to know how to choose their employees. Fortunately, I have found people who are with me body and soul, there are two here, for example, like António Oliveira and Sérgio Conceição. Therefore, I have a clear conscience to always defend the people who work with all their passion for FC Porto.”
“The myth of the FC Porto player was created. What is that? He is a player who gives his best in all circumstances, in games or in training, but this is also a merit of the training work. We will soon have news about our sporting city, but we must give credit to those who train so many players with so many difficulties”, highlighted the leader of FC Porto, opening the theme to some challenges that lie ahead, giving as a pertinent example the question about the UEFA ranking: “Portuguese clubs that go to the Champions League usually perform well, but it ends up being ridiculous that a victory in the Conference League is worth as much as a victory in the Champions League. It makes no sense and is harmful to Portuguese football.”
With Sérgio Conceição sitting in the audience, as well as Vítor Baía and other directors of the FC Porto structure, Pinto da Costa also did not fail to speak specifically about the coach of the blue and white team. “What can you say about a coach who won 10 titles in 7 years. Who always works towards the same goals? Who refused to go to Saudi to continue working at FC Porto?”, he shot, soon also leaving the guarantee: “I have people with enough value to keep FC Porto as it is.”

When leaders meet there is always harmony, just like in League meetings, because the League does not encourage discord or guerrillas. The League has a project in which it’s all about football, it’s all about the fans and the clubs. It is within this principle of the League that we can improve football.”
